Here you will find what makes the Lawrence family tick.

Site Basics

sayingwhatimdoing.com

Sayingwhatimdoing is my domain name because it clearly describes what this site is about, namely, what is happening with the Lawrence family. It is also a quotation from “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” which is a family favorite.

Some of my Favorite Sites

  • Lds.org

I really like lds.org because there are so many resources available for anything you might need related to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Among the resources available are: materials for creating lessons/talks; audio, video and text versions of General Conference; short, inspirational video clips, and the list goes on and on.

There isn’t much not to like on this site, the only thing that comes to mind is page load time. My computer isn’t the newest out there, and occasionally it takes a while to load. Always worth it though.

  • Portableapps.com

I really like portableapps.com because it is a classy website with some of the most useful tools around. They are all packaged in a format that is designed to be run from a USB drive. The site has a clear navigation and branding that make it clear and easy to distinguish where you are what content is on that page.

I did find it difficult to locate the breadcrumbs until a few pages into the site, and even then they weren’t as straight forward as they should have been.

  • Gmail.com

I really like gmail.com because I feel like they took a basic communication tool and made it into a powerful organizational communication tool. There are, along with gmail, several web apps that will help a person stay organized wherever they may be. The site is extremely user friendly and very customizable. There are themes that can be selected for the inbox (which I assume are simply different css files that the user can choose).

My only complaint is that it can be difficult to tell when you have left gmail to one of the other Google applications. It opens a new window/tab and you are using the new tool. It can be confusing sometimes as to how you arrived at the current page, and how to get back.

Content

Home Page

  • On the home page I am going to include basic introduction to our family and some jump off points to other sections of my site
  • I think it is important to have a simple home page, yet one that makes you want to learn more, my goal is to make a simple yet engaging homepage

About Me Page

  • The about me page is going to highlight my family, interests, and current projects
  • My about me page is also going to feature a story about how I met my wife

Topic Pages

  • I will have multiple topic pages. There will be a page about each of my children, things I enjoy doing, products/technology that interests me, and technical advice I have for people
  • Lots of pictures of my things will be used to make the site engaging and interesting, while also helping to make illustrate the story/point the page is trying to make
  • Examples of how to use technology to personal benefit will be included so the audience be able to use available resources to be more productive or organized

Legal Page

  • I am going to have a copyright policy to explain how the images/ideas on my site may be used
